The Methods to Repair the Corrupted WordPress’s Database.

written by IT Evangelist

Last night  when I was trying to update a page of my Blog which run on WordPress, the page was not able being updated after I edited, and when I tried to Reload, all the page and post was gone. When I tried to access the phpMyAdmin to check the table, it showed database was corrupted.

I believe that some of the WordPress users might experienced this before or may need some information on what to do if the WordPress’s database is corrupted.

Following is the steps for checking & repair the corrupted database :

Method 1 : WordPress Built-in Function : ( For version 2.9 & above only )

  • Step 1 : Access to "wp-config.php" which is located at root folder,  and add new line

    define('WP_ALLOW_REPAIR', true);

    and Save the file.

  • Step 2 :  Call the script from the any browser at the following address :

http://www.your-site-address.com/wp-admin/maint/repair.phpand you will see a page as the following,

  • Step 3 : Click on the Repair Function to repair your database. If failed, proceed to method 2.
  • The following show the successful repair :

  • Step 4 : Remember to Remove the line added at Step 1 , this is to prevent this page from being used by unauthorized users.

Method 2 : phpMyAdmin Method :

  • Step 1 : Access to your hosting company, cpanel – > phpMyAdmin.
  • Step 2 : Click on the database name.
  • Step 3 : Proceed to “wp_options” table as the following picture shown.

  • Step 4 : Click the Checkbox beside the wp_option.
  • Step 5 : Scroll down to the bottom page, and click the repair function.

Once you’re able to do either of the above method, you should able to see that your database is repaired, and can see all your page is now appear again.

This might not applicable to all the scenario, thus remember to do a regular backup for both of your database and and website.

Will talk about the wordpress back up method in the coming articles.
